Things to do
From epic landscapes, beautiful beaches, rich culture and heritage, a generous selection of National Trust Properties and some of the best adventure the UK…there really is something for everyone in North Wales!
Key attractions such as Zip World including the new Zip World Conwy, the Welsh Mountain Zoo, Greenwood Family Park and Bodnant Gardens are less than 30 minutes’ drive away. A little further afield, but still under an hour away, there is Portmeirion (the Italian-esque village and home of TV’s The Prisoner pictured left) and the Llyn Peninsula – where you will find stunning beaches and the popular seaside towns of Abersoch and Pwllheli, and the historic Harlech with its prominent castle. Both Anglesey and Snowdonia are within easy reach and offer an abundance of breath-taking scenery and things to do. You will find a selection of leaflets at the house to help plan your visit and get the most out of your stay.
On your doorstep
Conwy and Llandudno are nearby and offer great days out – Conwy with its mediaeval castle, marina and plenty of pubs and restaurants, and Llandudno: a traditional seaside town with pier, arcades, beaches and plenty of picturesque places to discover, such as the Great Orme and Marine Drive. Our favourite pizza place Johnny Doughs can found in these towns and we highly recommend a visit
Aber, just a couple of miles west from Llanfairfechan, is worth a visit for a walk up to Aber Falls or you can call into the newly opened Aber Falls Distillery for a bite to eat, a tour of the distillery or to stock up on some award-winning spirits.
Beaches
Llanfairfechan has a great beach. But if you want to venture further afield there are lots of amazing beaches nearby. On Anglesey there is Newborough (left), Llanddwyn, Trearddur Bay, Rhosneighr, Lligwy, Church Bay and Rhoscolyn. There is also Dinas Dinlle and lots down the Llyn Peninsula such as Abersoch, Hells Mouth, Whistling Sands and Llanbedrog.
Days out with Kids
There is lots to keep kids entertained! Greenwood (image left) is a great day out and so is the Welsh Mountain Zoo. Llandudno has all your traditional seaside entertainment (pier, rides, parks, beaches). Aged 3 and above an do the Zip World Fforest Coaster while for younger ones there Gypsy Wood and Pili Palace. Bodant Gardens also a beautiful National Trust Property for all of the family.
Adventure
North Wales is home to an exciting range of outdoor activities for Adrenalin junkies and families. Zip World has a number of sites with unique adventures for those those as young as 3 years old. Ranging from Velocity 2 - the fastest zip line in the world, to Quarry Karts, Treetop Nets, Bounce Below, Forrest Coaster - there is something for everyone. For those seeking adventure on water RibRide Anglesey offers guided tours of the Menai Strait. Adventure Parc Snowdonia has recently been taken over by Zip World and offers a range of indoor activities for all ages. With Snowdonia on your doorstep, there’s breathtaking valleys and beautiful walks to discover.
Shopping
Llandudno probably has the widest choice of familiar shops (M&S, TK Maxx, Next, Primark...) situated in the shopping parks just outside the centre. As well as everything you’d expect from a traditional seaside town, with an array of souvenir and charity shops. Bangor has a mix of independents in town and again more familiar stores on the outskirts. Beaumaris, Caernarfon and Conwy are good places to potter for a decent selection of arts, homewares and gifts. Janet Bell, a gorgeous lifestyle and gallery in Beaumaris is a favourite with us.
